Fed: Macklin says Labor looking at new role for conference

Labor is looking at new ways to involve party members in policy development.

Deputy opposition leader JENNY MACKLIN says Labor obviously wants to win the next election
and all issues are up for review.

Opposition Leader SIMON CREAN announced that Labor will embark on a major policy review
following its third successive federal election defeat last month.

But there have been calls inside and outside the party to change its policy-making structures.

Ms MACKLIN has told ABC TV the party's national executive is looking at the way the
national conference will run, how the national policy committees will be constructed,
and how to involve the party more in policy formulation.
