Vic: Libs ahead on preferences

MELBOURNE, Dec 11 AAP - Counting is underway for the Melbourne seat of Burwood.

With just six per cent of the vote counted, the battle between Labor and the Liberals is close.

ALP candidate Bob Stensholt with 972 votes leads Liberal opponent Lana McLean by 143 votes.

The by-election was forced by the resignation of former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett
after the September 18 general election.
