QLD: Beattie loses his cool in TV interview

Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE's complained to journalists in Brisbane today that
he was asked in a fiery TV interview today if he beat his wife.

Mr BEATTIE claims he was asked the question for Channel Nine's Sunday program and that
he laughed it off -- but says that even though it was cut from the program that went to
air, it made him angry during the rest of his taped interview.

Mr BEATTIE was questioned in the interview about what he knew about electoral rorts
in Townsville in 1996.

Sunday confronted him with transcripts of interviews in Townsville when he was Opposition
leader which supposedly established he was aware of electoral rorting allegations.

But Mr BEATTIE told the program the interviews actually showed he had no knowledge
of electoral rorting.

Opposition Leader ROB BORBIDGE, meanwhile, says Mr BEATTIE is "denying the undeniable"

about what he knew of the rorts.
